Chief Executive Officer
Jim Oberman joined Payroc in May 2015, as Managing Director and in Septembe 2016 was appointed CEO. Jim oversees Payroc’s strategic initiatives and long term enterprise development, bringing a vast array of electronic payments expertise and over 27 years of senior executive and entrepreneur payments experience. Jim’s primary role is to ensure Payroc continues to have the payments capabilities to properly serve its merchants, Payment Professionals and referral partners.
Since 2000 Jim has served National Processing Company (NPC-formerly Retriever Payment Systems) in a variety of senior executive capacities. In 2010 Vantiv (VNTV:NYSE) purchased NPC and Vantiv appointed Jim as the Managing Director of Vantiv’s NPC ISO business. Late in 2013 Vantiv appointed Jim to serve as Vantiv’s enterprise wide Chief Merchant Risk Officer. NPC is Vantiv’s nationwide ISO merchant distribution business serving over 220,000 small-to-medium sized merchants.
During Jim’s tenure with NPC and Vantiv, he also drove the development of and relationship with several key NPC ISOs, as well as oversight and management of specific specialty initiatives. These initiatives include the invention of market differentiating boarding, CRM and risk management systems, the acquisition of merchant portfolios, the oversight of the company’s POS equipment leasing and check processing divisions, and acquisition and oversight of NPC’s POS terminal deployment and service business unit.
Other payments industry accomplishments for Jim include growing and selling a successful ISO of Global Payments Systems (GPN:NYSE) to a larger GPN ISO, and the acquisition of a check services company in 1993 which was sold to GPN in 1995. Jim has served on a number of payments association and card brand advisory committees and boards which included serving on the Electronic Transaction Association (ETA) Government Relations and Risk Committees and ETA’s Strategic Leadership Forum. Jim is also on Vantiv’s ISO Advisory Board.
Jim currently resides in the Chicagoland area, has been married for 36 years and has 4 children and 7 grandchildren. For over 30 years Jim has been a board member of Calvary Academy Christian School in South Holland, Illinois and Restoration Ministries in Harvey, Illinois, and, was recently was appointed to the Board of Elders of Parkview Christian Church in Orland Park, Illinois.×
Nicholas Oberman is the President of Payroc. He is a founder of the company. Nick has over 13 years of sales and management experience within the payments industry. He originally formed Payroc as Retriever of Chicago (ROC), a sales group of Retriever Payment Systems, powered by National Processing Company (NPC). NPC was acquired by Vantiv in 2010, and ROC grew to become one of Vantiv’s largest sales organizations. In 2014, Nick lead the initiative for ROC to rebrand and register “Payroc” as an Independent Sales Organization (ISO) of Fifth Third Bank, powered by Vantiv.
Driven by Nick’s leadership, Payroc has focused and embraced a consultative and advisory approach with its merchants, advocating transparent Interchange Plus Pricing along with focused Interchange Management. Because of this commitment, Payroc has developed a portfolio of many larger specialty and emerging market technology Merchants. Nick has brought a balance to the “new” breed of ISO where the Merchant comes first.
Nick is a member of Vantiv’s ISO Advisory Board and played a key role in the design and development of the Electronic Transaction Association (ETA) Certified Payment Professional (CPP) exam. This exam, which is a requirement Nick has instituted for Payroc, is one of many sound strategies the payments industry is advocating to make sure sales professionals become Payments Professionals.
Nick also is an active Board Member of a charitable community organization, Restoration Ministries, Harvey, Illinois. This organization helps underprivileged individuals and families create a better life for themselves in a number of different ways. He resides in the Chicagoland area with his wife and 3 sons.×
Chief Revenue Officer
Ryan Hallett is the Chief Revenue Officer, and one of the co-founders of Payroc. Ryan has been with Payroc since 2004. Ryan has over 10 years of payment experience and, as Payroc’s Chief Revenue Officer, is primarily responsible to ensure that Payroc’s “Go-to-Market” approach is consistent with Payroc’s core values while retaining and growing relationships with merchants, Payment Professionals and referral partners. Ryan’s payments expertise includes sales, referral partner development, management, product, marketing, and customer service. Throughout his tenure with Payroc, Ryan has developed and built an Interchange Management expertise and has guided Payroc’s business strategies, incubating new payments models and cultivating valuable referral partner programs. His expertise has helped Payroc advance new revenue generating opportunities, adding to Payroc’s merchant portfolio a number of large and specialty merchants.
Other industry accomplishments include being a part of the Electronic Transaction Association (ETA) team, collaborating with Payroc’s CEO, Nicholas Oberman, to shape the payments industry’s comprehensive certified Payment Professional exam and certification process. In addition to his payments expertise, Ryan also serves as the President of the Restoration Ministries Jr. Executive Board, Harvey, Illinois. He received his B.S. from Illinois State University, Cum-Laude.
Ryan currently resides in St. John, Indiana with his wife Katie and two daughters. In his spare time he enjoys the outdoors, music, running, and spending time with his young family.×
Chief Financial Officer
Adam is one of the founders and has been the Chief Financial Officer of Payroc since 2012, responsible for all financial, risk, and compliance matters of the company, especially ensuring Payroc’s partners are paid accurately and on-time.
Adam has been with Payroc since 2004 and has over 14 years of risk, sales and financial experience within the payments industry. From 2004 through 2011 Adam’s role at Payroc focused on the development of larger and more complex eCommerce merchants which remain today as one of the cornerstones of Payroc’s core capabilities. Adam’s payments’ industry experience, coupled with his financial expertise, are critical to the future growth and success of Payroc.
Prior to joining Payroc, from 2001 through 2004, Adam was the Senior Risk Manager & Analyst for National Processing Company (NPC), formerly Retriever Payment Systems, overseeing NPC’s transaction and chargeback risk management activities. He also was a member of the NPC team that invented and developed what remains today NPC’s, and its parent company Vantiv’s, risk management system.
Adam currently resides in Frankfort, Illinois, with his wife Kimberly and their 4 children. He is also an active Sunday school teacher for 4th and 5th graders at his church every Sunday.×
Chief Operating Officer
Matt Austin is the Chief Operating Officer for Payroc, establishing long lasting strategic partnership relationships. Matt has extensive history building strong and lasting relationships with financial institutions, technology providers, and referral partners. Matt’s focus is to complement and broaden our partner’s relationship with their clients, and deliver cost competitive customized card acceptance programs. As a payments industry veteran known for his integrity and transparency, Matt builds relationships that last. Prior to joining Payroc, Matt founded an independent consulting firm focused on analyzing and addressing for merchants the confusing, inconsistent and sometimes hidden fees that are prevalent in today’s card processing relationships. His efforts helped save millions of dollars for his clients, all while improving their contractual terms. Matt also worked with many ISOs, Merchant Acquirers, and other industry organizations to improve their efficiencies and grow their businesses.
Matt was Senior Vice President of Risk Management with National Processing Company for over a decade, in which he was responsible for risk transaction monitoring, underwriting, collections, account boarding and compliance. He managed a team of over 60 people across multiple locations. Under his leadership, his teams performed at the top of the payments industry. During his tenure, losses were reduced, approval levels were greatly increased and the company’s customer satisfaction was at an all time high.
Prior to becoming a payments industry veteran Matt was with Arthur Andersen, at the time the world’s largest accounting firm. He headed up information management consulting teams serving Fortune 500 clients and other large multi-national clients. Matt gained the reputation for blending the art and science of information management to both internal and external client needs. He was regularly called upon by Fortune 1000 clients to handle process design engagements.
Matt holds a Bachelor degree in Business Management from Bradley University in Illinois. He currently resides in the South Suburbs of Chicago with his wife and three children. Matt serves on several boards and committees of various charitable and community organizations.×
Chief Technology Officer
Jared is the face of Payroc’s technology to the payment processing industry and manages the internal development team ensuring delivery of leading products and services to Payroc clients. An industry veteran of 18 years, Jared is the current co-chair of the ETA’s technology council, helping drive payments technology and education. Jared joined Payroc through the acquisition of iTransact where he joined in their startup phase and was responsible for raising early venture funding, sales growth, finance, and managing the company through three mergers. Previous to iTransact, Jared was a series 7/63 licensed stock trader for Fidelity Investments and received a BS in Business Finance from Brigham Young University in 1999.

EVP iTransact Sales
David came to Payroc from iTransact, where he was Chief Operating Officer. Prior to that, David was a founding partner of My ePHIT LLC, where he served as President and COO. He has over 20 years of entrepreneurial business experience; he has managed, developed, and executed new business strategies for hospitals, health systems, physician groups, health plans, wellness centers, and financial institutions. David received his BA from Brigham Young University and his MBA and Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota.×
Brandon is a Senior Executive Vice President of Payroc, overseeing Payroc’s Payment Professionals and managers. Brandon has been with Payroc since 2007. He consistently has been one of Payroc’s top Payment Professionals and is now concentrating on Payment Professional recruiting, mentoring, education, training and oversight of the day-to-day activities with Payroc’s Payment Professionals and their Managers.
Brandon is integral to Payroc’s recruiting and relationships with referral partners, matching the right Payment Professional best suited for the referral partner. He has been instrumental in the growth of Payroc, including the development and success of a large multi-location banking referral partner from 2011-2014, bringing in a number of new merchants.
To further enhance the success of his Payment Professionals, Brandon was instrumental in the development of and involvement in the oversight of Payroc’s appointment setting team who engage in meaningful conversations with potential merchants, evaluating what is best for each merchant. Brandon is certified with the payments industry Electronic Transaction Association (ETA) becoming an ETA certified Payment Professional. Brandon is committed to making sure each Payroc Payment Professional is also properly certified.
Brandon currently resides in St. John, Indiana with his wife and three children. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, practicing martial arts, and serving at his church, Faith Church in Dyer, Indiana with the Reflectors Ministry helping disabled students. EVP Payment Solutions
Aaron joined Payroc as Chief Technology Officer in May of 2014 further strengthening the organization’s executive leadership and technological capabilities. With an 11 year career in electronic payments and a lifetime passion for all facets of technology, Aaron was excited to join this rapidly growing company to focus on delivering a world class experience. In addition to serving as Payroc’s SVP Payfac Trusty, Aaron also manages Payroc’s risk management and 3rd party vendor relationships.
Since 2004, Aaron has held various key senior risk management roles with Vantiv (VNTV:NYSE) and National Processing Company (NPC) which Vantiv acquired in 2010. Since 2008 Aaron was the Senior Manager of Vantiv’s and NPC’s merchant risk division. In this role, Aaron focused on transactional risk while coordinating oversight of risk investigations, chargebacks, and underwriting. Aaron was primarily responsible for a merchant portfolio with volume of over $300B per year, delivering industry leading results year-over-year.
Aaron was a key member of the NPC team that built NPC’s risk system and then most recently lead the Vantiv team that enhanced and upgraded Vantiv’s risk management alert and CRM systems to address the ever changing new and complex risk challenges facing the payments industry, including omni-commerce, complex eCommerce marketplaces, payment aggregation, and mobile payments.
Prior to joining NPC in 2004, Aaron gained a critical foundation in the payments industry including overseeing underwriting and collections for a POS equipment leasing company, executing POS system deployment and support for a leading NPC ISO, and managing the referral partner relationship and sales process for a large referral bank relationship in Chicago with over 100 branches.
Aaron resides in Northwest Indiana with his wife of 7 years and their two children. In spare time he enjoys spending time with family, golfing, visiting craft breweries and watching Chicago sports teams.×
SVP of Business Development
Colby has been with iTransact since 2004 and has over 12 years experience in the payments industry. During that time he has been instrumental in growing iTransact from a small gateway company to a full-fledged merchant service provider and technology company. Along the way he has served in many roles, including: Sales Manager, Training Manager, Finance Manager, Director of Operations, and Business Development Manager, giving him a breadth of experience in every aspect of the industry. He serves on Vantiv’s ISO Advisory board where he has helped guide the company in their product and technology offerings.
Colby is thrilled to be joining the Payroc team as the SVP of Business Development where he will be focused on finding new partners that want to help their clients and associates take advantage of Payroc’s best in class pricing, products, and service. Colby will also be using his broad experience and teaching history to head up training; ensuring that all Payroc staff are experts in both the Acquiring Industry as well as Payroc’s unique approach to earning and keeping their client’s business.
Prior to joining iTransact, Colby taught English at the University of Utah, where he received both his BA and MFA in British and American Literature. He lives in Farmington, Utah and is married with three children.×
Director of Operations
Kevin Conroy is the Director of Operations at Payroc and has been with Payroc since 2009. He received his B.A. in Psychology at San Francisco State University. He oversees day-to-day operations to ensure Payroc delivers a quality service in a timely manner. Prior to joining Payroc Kevin worked for a large eCommerce company overseeing logistics and order fulfillment. He also participated in the company’s online web enhancements and updates. Kevin enjoys traveling, live music, new technology and electronics. Kevin resides in the Printers Row neighborhood in the city of Chicago.×

Ashley Shereyk is the Operations Manager at Payroc and has been with Payroc since 2015. She received her B.A. in Psychology at Eastern Illinois University and her M.A. in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Argosy University. Ashley wears multiple hats to provide customer support and to manage day-to-day activity at Payroc. Ashley currently resides in the South Suburbs of Chicago. In her spare time she enjoys playing with her dog, working out, and baking in the kitchen.×
Advisor / Board Member
Stephen was a founder and Chief Executive Officer of National Merchant Services, LLC until its merger with iTransact in 2010. Prior to that, Mr. Hall was CEO and one of the four founding partners of My ePHIT LLC, where they successfully took the company from the idea stage through a profitable acquisition by AXIA Health Management LLC in 2006. He began his business career with Mutual of New York in Boise, Idaho, as a financial professional. In 1986 became the General Manager of MONY’s Boise Intermountain Agency. In 1990 he received the James H Lake Memorial Award for MONY’s leading Career Agency. In 1990 he was appointed as MONY’s Chief Marketing Officer and finished his 27-year career with MONY as Senior Vice President responsible for MONY’s career distribution. During his career he has served on several professional, community and company boards. Mr. Hall graduated from Boise State University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He is a CLU and ChFC.×
Prior to the 2010 merger of iTransact, Inc., with National Merchant Services LLC, Porter was Chairman of the Board of NMS. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of My ePHIT LLC, an online wellness system serving over 25 million customers across the US. Prior to that, he spent 33 years with Arthur Andersen LLP, where he was Senior Partner and Managing Partner of the Utah Practice, specializing in public and private financings and mergers and acquisitions. He has served as chairman and director of a number of private and public companies and community and educational organizations. Porter received his BS in Accounting from Brigham Young University.×
Mike is one of the founders and creators of iTransact and is the architect of the company’s transaction processing and security technology, including the iTransact payment gateway and Dashboard. In 1994 Mike joined forces with his father, Allen Sumsion, to form Redi-Check, the precursor to iTransact and the first company to provide check acceptance services on the Internet. Mike is an expert in compliance with the Payment Card Industry’s Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) and develops customized tech solutions for iTransact’s clients. Mike was named one of Utah Business magazine’s 2009 “Forty Under 40.”×
